All of the nominations go through a rigorous selection process involving internal vetting, independent evaluation by Heidrick & Struggles and finally screening by a selection Committee headed by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Candidates are selected based on their proven track record of professional accomplishments, breadth of their expertise, commitment to society and their ability to overcome adversity, among other criteria.
This year’s class of Young Global Leaders Class is composed of 199 individuals from all walks of life and all sectors of society, with 42% women. They come from 70 different countries and have a diverse and rich range of interests and expertise showing the truly global nature of leadership today.
The Class of 2013 represents the best of today’s leaders under the age of 40. They will be joining a truly global community of more than 1,000 active YGL members and alumni – a community of diverse perspectives but united in its shared purpose of creating a better world. The YGL community enables leaders to turn their personal success into global significance through the scaling up of ideas that lead to impactful change.
We cannot wait to involve our new YGLs into the YGL Community: looking at what they have already achieved as individuals it will be exciting to see what they can do to improve the state of the world with the help of other like-minded leaders.
David Aikman, Senior Director and Head of the World Economic Forum's Young Global Leaders
